The Irregular

Mother's Day wrapped

Letter from the Farmer-General

Well, Mother's Day came and went, and we went from delivering flowers in the snow one day to shirtsleeves the next, and got to see some of you in the process.

Speaking of Mother's Day, I owe a lot to my mom, Ilene. She's an avid gardener and really instilled a love of gardens and flowers in me (although as a kid I might not have appreciated the sweat that went into moving rocks around the yard).

That's her old back yard in Michigan in the first photo, in the house where I grew up. And the second is her new back yard in Pittsburgh, where in a few short years she's already worked a lot of magic. This week she's been planting out some annuals (red geraniums) and mulching (at least, in between the rain spells).

At greenSinner, we've been getting the dahlias planted. They've been pre-sprouting in the studio for a few weeks, so it's a relief to finally get them outside and make some room to move. We'll also be getting the sunshade up this weekend so the houseplants can go out as well.

Now that Mother's Day is over, we're making plans for what's next while events are still limited by quarantine. We've got plants and flowers for pickup or delivery, and we're adding some online classes and re-introducing our summer flower CSA.

Well, that's all for this week. Next week I'll hopefully have the vegetable garden up and going for the summer, so we'll check back in then. In the meanwhile, let us know what's going on in your garden.

———Until next week,
Jonathan, Farmer-General
& the whole greenSinner family
